Missed Abortion

An abortion in which the fetus dies but is retained within the uterus for two months or longer. There are no reasons to have suspected that the pregnancy is not going to continue but the embryo has died. This kind of abortion is not intentional. The lady concerned is not planning an abortion but the fetus dies and thereby leads to an intentional abortion.

The uterus diminishes in size, and symptoms of pregnancy abate; maternal infection and blood clotting disorders may follow. The fetus and placenta may become necrotic; less commonly the fetus becomes calcified, and the rest of the products of conception are resorbed.

The combination of modern pregnancy tests and ultrasound will usually determine the situation quite quickly.

The cause of death of the fetus may be many such as smoking, drinking, obesity and many others.

How do you get read off the missed abortion – You have to visit the hospital and a procedure known as evacuation of retained products of conception will be performed. This will get read off the dead fetus.
